Disabling Accounts

12.02.2009

Someone who has a right administartor means has the power to install a software and determine who the user is allowed to use the computer, including blocking access to certain resources. But there is one function that does not exist. In the User Accounts settings, you are not given access to disable a particular account. So if there is one user who violates the rules, and you want to give sanctions, it is not possible in the Control Panel.

But not to worry, disabling the account can be done via the registry. Here's how :

  1. Click Start, then type "regedt32".
  2. Go to the sub key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Policies\Special \ Accounts \ Userlist .
  3. Click the right mouse button on the right side of the window, then click "New> DWORD (32bit) Value ".
  4. Rename the new DWORD Value you just created with a username like to disable. Suppose you want to hide Filesis account, then fill in "Filesis" as a DWORD Value.
  5. Fill in the Value Data = 0.
  6. Restart Windows
After you restart, the username you have selected will be hidden. Then press "Ctrl + Alt + Del" to log in from that account. To restore its original settings, change the DWORD Value The earlier you set to the value 0 to 1.
